This journey all started
on February 7th, 2013. My brother dropped me off at the airport, not
knowing where I was going. I stumbled in about 20 minutes till my plane
departed to Houston. I was going to Florida, for discernment weekend.
It was part of the Young Adult Service Corps (YASC) application process. You
see, I was not sure what I was getting myself into, but I let the hand of God
guide me to where I needed to go. From that weekend, I found myself renewed and
open to where my faith was leading me. I have always been part of my Church and
expressed myself as a child of God, but never talked openly about my faith.
Well, the discernment weekend did justice when I found myself at the foot of
the cross when I opened my heart to 25 amazing individuals that had the same interest
and understanding about our faith.
Micah 6:8 says "He
has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord
require of you But to do Justly, To love mercy, and to walk humbly with you
God?"
That was our council theme, and I
have known about it for a while. There was something about this verse that resonated
with me. When going up to council, I was in the car with two other individuals
that have impacted my life so much. We were on the way up to Corpus
Christi, to represent Trinity Episcopal Church (TEC), at the 109th council of the
Diocese of West Texas. I was dosing off when my phone
buzzed notifying me that I got an Email. It was YASC, saying that my
calling is in Panama. I woke up from my doze and notified the other
individuals. I was so thrilled, that God was showing me that I had to do my
calling for mission work in Central America. I got to the center where council
was being held and went to go look for Fr. Scott (My rector from church). This
was the moment where I knew that my life was going to change. God will show me
how to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly, throughout this coming year.
Within this coming year, I will have
the privilege in helping the Diocese of Panama. Working with the Inglesia
Episcopal San Mate, I will work with the youth program and be a lay reader
on Sundays. I will also help set up a support system with a Girls Home in
Panama. My journey is just beginning and I want you to follow me through this journey.
